The first participation took place on March 4, 2022 at Rohan Island. The participants were asked to walk with me the whole area from the restored part to the wilderness and the aim was to assess what our awareness of Rohan Island is, what the reality is, how we can get to know it differently and if this has had an impact on how the area appears.
The first task was to name the territory without any process or experience and thus reflect whether the territory has connotations, what social group I belong to and also what is my personal relationship to the territory. The next task was a method I call "train of thoughts" which increases the degree of perception (zooming in, zooming out) and through recording on paper or through audio, images materialize that would normally just pass through our minds unnoticed. The method runs through the whole territory and the participants themselves decide where to start recording their insights, perceptions, images, both visual and emotional. The next task was to learn about the Image of the city theory and differentiate the territory using the Lynch's 5 city elements, participants are also asked to relate to each element physically and thus experience a different point of view. The last phase was to name the territory again throughout the unconventional city tour. I evaluate the experiment with people very positively, the group dynamics were very well found and they managed to connect to the assignment and find their interest in it, the results of the participation will be further incorporated and will help to the next phase of the participation activities.
PLAN: Changing the Image of Rohan Island - workshop
1. PUBLIC MIND: Changing the imaginary public notion
How people know Rohan Island? What nickname would you give to the area (landscape nicknaming)? What is the public image? What’s the personal-private-relational image?
a. Make a mosaic out of the nicknames, expressions, sentences…that will create a “spider web” thus revealing the holistic image and identity
b. Online digital public sphere - “exhibition”, intervention – creating magical, mysterious (genius loci, Schulz) identity - Rohan Island Upside Down - form of the digital exhibition, intervention: mosaic of public expressions + picture of the current situation: RAW + bring the magic by scenography, atmosphere, movements, poetry
2. PUBLIC BODY: Changing the image by experiencing the space differently:
a. Landscape body mapping – materiality (observing me or participating)
b. Motion mapping through 5 elements – paths, landmarks, edges, nodes, districts (observing or participating)
